Sustainable and functional: A new govermental office for justice

Rijksvastgoedbedrijf has completed a new Rijkskantoor voor justitie in Zaanstad. This innovative structure, covering approximately 7,650 m², was realized by BINX Smartility. In collaboration with architects Studio PROTOTYPE and ArchiTech Company, a functional and sustainable workplace has been created.

The design is deeply rooted in the surrounding Natura 2000 landscape of Westzaan. The building’s clear structure is organized around green and light atriums, which allow abundant daylight into the interior and foster a healthy working environment. At the same time, they enhance the connection between the building and the surrounding nature reserve. The nature-inclusive design contributes to biodiversity and climate adaptation.

Sustainability is the core of both the construction process and materials used. The biobased wooden supporting structure minimizes the ecological impact compared to traditional construction materials like concrete and steel. The parametrically designed facade optimizes daylight, energy efficiency, and privacy, while the green light atriums create a pleasant and open working atmosphere.

With this new building, Rijksvastgoedbedrijf takes a significant step toward future-proof, sustainable housing.

The opening of the Orangerie, ministery of EZ, KGG en LVVN in The Hague

Last week, the newly renovated Orangerie was officially opened, a collaborative design by studio PROTOTYPE and Zenber Architects.
The project involved redesigning several areas of the government office at Bezuidenhoutseweg 73 in The Hague — home to the Ministry of Economic Affairs (EZ), KGG, and LVVN — with the goal of efficiently optimizing the spaces for multifunctional use. Central to the design are spaces that encourage meeting, discussion, and collaboration. The focal point of the renovation is the Orangerie, which now surrounds two existing pavilions that have been transformed into vibrant hubs for connection.

Honorable mention for the 2021 Architecture Prize Nijmegen!

The Villa Sint Anna project, designed by studio PROTOTYPE, has received an Honorable Mention for the 2021 Nijmegen Architecture Prize! This recognition was granted based on the jury’s recommendation, led by jury chair Gus Tielens (co-founder and architect at Korth Tielens Architecten). We are truly grateful for this acknowledgment and for the opportunity to contribute to the architectural quality of the city of Nijmegen. Studio PROTOTYPE would also like to congratulate the winner, Mecanoo Architects, for their project, The School Campus Het Rijks and Jorismavo.
